What is Tier 2 Visas?

The Tier 2 visas (general/ shortage occupations) category allows skilled workers to enter or remain in the UK to take up employment opportunities with a sponsor under points base system sponsorship license.

Applicants must ensure they provide all the necessary documentation at the time of submitting their application, and only accepted documents specified in UKBA guidance.
Applicants who fail to provide specified documentation; will not be contacted to request them. Therefore, applicants that fail to send the correct documents may be refused.
All documentation used as evidence must be the original (not a copy) unless UKBA specifically say otherwise.

What is the skilled workers category?

Tier 2 Visas (General) is for any Non-EU in or coming to the UK with a skilled workers job either on shortage occupations list or a General job offer to fill a vacancy that cannot be filled by a settled worker.

Before applying under the skilled workers category Tier 2 Visas (General), you must have:
- a sponsor; and
- a valid (certificate of sponsorship) COS worth 30 points (This includes Shortage occupations & other specified catagories)
When you apply under skilled workers category you are awarded points based on you're:
- future expected earnings; Must be above £20,000 per annum
- sponsorship certificate;
- English language skills;
- Available maintenance (funds).

Criteria for points awarded under points base system sponsorship (up to 50 points available)

The job is on the shortage occupations list 30
The job meets the resident labour market test 30
The migrant is switching from a post-study worker category 30

Qualification requirements have been removed

Future expected earnings (up to 25 points available)
Less than £20,000 points 0
£20,000 - £23,999 points 10
£24,000 - £27,999 points15
£28,000 - £31,999 points 20
£32,000 or more points 25

Maintenance (10 points available)
Demonstration of required funds or A-rated sponsor who will certify that it:

- will maintain and accommodate the migrant until the end of their first month in the UK; and
- has informed the migrant that they must not claim state benefits

English language skills (10 points available)
- The migrant is a national of a majority English-speaking country
- The migrant has passed an English language test
- The migrant has a degree that was taught in English
