Tier 4 (General) Student
Students can apply as adult students under Tier 4 visas (General) of the points based system if they come to the UK to study Higher Education.
Student visitor
Applicants can apply as a student visitor if they are 18 years +, you want to come and study in the UK for maximum of 6 months, and you dont need to work while you are here.
Applicants cant switch and apply for a Tier 4 visas(General) student visa while still in the UK as a student visitor. Applicants looking to apply for an Tier 4 visas (General) student visa, must apply from their country of origin.
Prospective students
Applicants can apply as a prospective student if they want to come to the UK to decide which course to study, as long as they plan to start a course within 6 months.
You will be able to switch and apply for a Tier 4 visas (General) or Tier 4 visas (Child) student visa while you are in the UK if your on a Prospective student visa.
Applicants must ensure they provide all the necessary documentation at the time of submitting their application, and only accepted documents specified in UKBA guidance.
Applicants who fail to provide specified documentation; will not be contacted to request them. Therefore, applicants that fail to send the correct documents may be refused.
All documentation used as evidence must be the original (not a copy) unless UKBA specifically say otherwise.

What do you need when you apply?
Everyone must score 40 points to be able to apply for a student visa.
30 points are awarded for doing a course at NVQ level 3 or above with an approved education provider, or Sponsor.
A certificate of Sponsorship for studies reference number issued by an approved education provider and the documents used to obtain it. E.g. Offer letter, Letter of acceptance etc..
Students also have to score 10 points for having enough money to cover there course fees and living costs (known as maintenance) click here for more information on fees & living costs UKBA TIER4 -STUDENT. Bank statements or letter confirming that you have enough money to cover your course fees and living costs for a given period can be found via the link above.
You must be able to prove that the money has been available in your account for 28 days before the date when you apply.

Money needed
The money that you need includes course fees and monthly living costs.
The monthly living costs needed depends on where you are studying, if you studied in the UK recently, length of course and where will you study.
Full course fees and £800 for each calendar month of the course initial nine months for inner London & outside inner London Full course fees and £600 for each calendar month of the courseinitial nine months. If the Course is more than 9 months long for inner London First year of course fees and £7,200 to cover living costs for intial nine months & outside inner London First years course fees and £5,400 to cover living costs.
If you are currently studying or have recently finished studying in the UK your money requirement will be lower if you completed a course of study in the UK that was minimum of six months long in the last four months, or if you have completed at least six months of a existing course.
To Qualify you must be or have been in one of the following immigration categories:
* Tier 4 (Child) student
* Tier 4 (General) student
* postgraduate doctor or dentist
* student (under the rules in place before 31 March 2009)
* student nurse
* student re-sitting an examination
* student writing up a thesis
* student union sabbatical officer
If you meet the above requirement, then money needed is:
